What Is in You?

Inspiration by Derrick Ssemambo

We often look for answers outside ourselves, hoping for something new, spectacular, or external to change our circumstances. But the Word of God teaches us that He begins by multiplying what is already in us—our gifts, our abilities, our faith, and even our humble resources. Today, we will reflect on this powerful truth: God doesn’t need to give us something new; He increases what we already have.

1. God Multiplies What Is Already in Your Hands

Key Texts:

  • “What is that in your hand?” He asked. “A staff,” he replied. – Exodus 4:2
  • “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.” – Mark 6:38

When God called Moses to deliver Israel, He didn’t give Moses a new tool. He asked Moses to use what was already in his hand—a simple shepherd’s staff. In Jesus’ ministry, He multiplied five loaves and two fish to feed thousands, using what a young boy already had.

Application:
God’s power works through what we have in our hands. Your talents, skills, and resources may seem ordinary or small, but in God’s hands, they can accomplish extraordinary things. Don’t despise what seems insignificant; surrender it to God, and watch Him multiply it.

2. God Works with What Is in Your House

Key Text:

  • Elisha said, “Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” – 2 Kings 4:2

The widow in 2 Kings 4 faced a desperate situation. Her creditors were coming to take her sons as slaves. But God, through the prophet Elisha, didn’t bring new resources; He used the small jar of oil she already had. As she poured the oil in faith, God multiplied it, meeting her needs abundantly.

Application:
Look around and recognize the “jar of oil” in your life. What skills, opportunities, or connections has God already placed in your possession? Often, the miracle begins with what is already present—when you offer it to God in obedience and faith.

3. God Increases the Anointing You Already Carry

Key Text:

  • But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Paul sought deliverance from his “thorn in the flesh,” but God reminded him that His grace was sufficient. God doesn’t need to give you a new anointing; He increases and strengthens the one you already carry as you rely on Him.

Application:
The anointing you need for your next season is already within you. God’s grace equips you for every good work. Trust His sufficiency and know that He is preparing you through your current experiences.

4. Do Not Despise Humble Beginnings

Key Text:

  • “Who dares despise the day of small things?” – Zechariah 4:10

God often begins His work in small, seemingly insignificant ways. David started as a shepherd before becoming a king. Jesus was born in a manger before being exalted as Savior. The small beginnings in your life are not to be despised but to be stewarded with faithfulness.

Application:
Rejoice in the small things and trust the process of growth. Be diligent and faithful with what you have, knowing that God is working in and through you to bring about a greater purpose.

5. Contentment Is Key

Key Text:

  • “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation… I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:12-13

God calls us to be content with what we have, trusting that He will multiply and provide as we walk in obedience. Contentment doesn’t mean complacency but gratitude for what God has already given us, knowing He will increase it in His perfect timing.

God’s pattern is to work through what you already have. Whether it’s a staff, a jar of oil, loaves and fish, or the anointing you carry, God begins with what is in you. Trust Him to multiply your resources, increase your anointing, and use you for His glory. Examine your life today. What is in your hand? What is in your house? Surrender it to God and let Him work His miraculous multiplication. Trust His sufficiency, rejoice in humble beginnings, and walk in the confidence that His grace is enough for you.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for all You have placed in us. Teach us to trust You with our resources, abilities, and anointing. Multiply what we have for Your glory and help us to be content and faithful in all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
